The buzz around The Game Awards was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
